An-Najah University Environmental Education & Conservation Unit
The Environmental Education & Conservation Unit (EECU) at An-Najah National University is dedicated to two core purposes: advancing environmental education and preserving Palestine’s natural heritage.
Our Story
Rooted in Sahl Sumit and extending across Palestine, EECU connects students, schools, researchers, and local communities with nature — through specialized facilities, applied research, and community programs — building the environmental knowledge and responsibility needed for a sustainable future.
Vision
To be a pioneering institutional model that transforms environmental education into a dynamic system of action, impact, and societal change — positioning An-Najah National University as an active driver of environmental sustainability across Palestine and the region.
Mission
To integrate teaching, applied research, and community engagement into a unified framework — rooted in Sahl Sumit and extending across Palestine — that protects biodiversity, preserves natural heritage, and empowers students, schools, and local communities to become active contributors to a sustainable future.
What Makes EECU Unique
A living classroom
Learning happens in the field — trails, greenhouses, and natural habitats replace traditional classrooms.
Conservation with real impact
46 strictly Palestinian plant species documented and actively protected — not just studied, but saved.
Rooted locally, designed to scale
Developing a transferable Environmental Education Blueprint for universities across the region.
Bridging academia and policy
Research feeds directly into national environmental planning and governance — not just publications.
Community at the core
From farmers to school children, EECU’s work is built with communities, not just for them.
